Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

As Palestine and Israel are mired in violence and suffering, PWS&D is prepared to respond to the humanitarian needs. The Presbyterian Church in Canada stands in solidarity with all the people of the region, who are enduring the devastating consequences of continued violence and strife.

PWS&D’s humanitarian response will assist with shelter, food, livelihoods, emergency health, psychosocial and mental health support, as well as cash assistance to allow people to purchase the goods they require.

Donations made to PWS&D are eligible to be matched by the Government of Canada through the Humanitarian Coalition’s Gaza Emergency appeal. Donations made between October 7 and November 12 will be matched, up to a total of $10 million.

Afghanistan Emergency Relief

On October 7, the province of Herat in western Afghanistan was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake. A series of aftershocks followed. To date, the United Nations estimates that over 12,000 people have been affected. Both the number of affected households and casualties are expected to rise as assessments continue.

Syria – Türkiye Earthquake Response

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake has caused devastation in southeast Türkiye and northern Syria. Multiple aftershocks and a second earthquake have only made the situation worse. Over 6,000 have been killed and many more are missing or injured. Widespread building collapses have been reported and the search for survivors continues.Pray with us for all of those affected.

The Syrian population was already deeply affected by the ongoing war and the economic collapse of the country and now, many people must deal with being displaced, losing their livelihood and surviving the harsh winter conditions.

In situations like this, PWS&D can help quickly through our partners at ACT Alliance. We continue to assess the situation and will be responding. Members of ACT are on the ground and have begun distributing warm food and canned goods to people affected by the disaster.

To support the response, click the button below, call 1-800-619-7301, mail a cheque to the office or give through your congregation. Indicate your donation is for “Syria-Türkiye Earthquake.”

Through our membership in Canadian Foodgrains Bank, PWS&D is taking part in the Humanitarian Coalition’s Earthquake in Türkiye and Syria appeal.
